The Peugeot 9X8 connected a dramatic 2021 reveal with a new Le Mans Hypercar competition programme. Its original wingless form made the hybrid prototype instantly recognisable, while later development introduced substantial aerodynamic changes. This profile brings the show-car, race-car and J. Demsky livery inventory entries into one programme record. The dates remain explicit: the reveal was in 2021, competition began in 2022, and the Demsky collaboration was presented in 2023.

The 2021 reveal and the programme boundary

The July 2021 factory dossier introduced the 9X8 ahead of a planned 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship debut. The physical presentation and the later race programme are related stages, not automatically separate rare-model identities. Consolidating them here prevents the same programme from appearing repeatedly in the upload. It does not claim that a display object and every racing chassis were physically identical; individual construction histories remain a separate subject requiring specific records.

A hybrid system governed by competition rules

The reveal dossier described a rear 2.6-litre twin-turbo V6, a front motor-generator and a seven-speed sequential gearbox under the HYBRID4 500KW designation. The headline component ratings should not simply be added to create a larger unrestricted race-output claim. A competition car’s usable system performance depends on the rules and its approved configuration. For an individual event, retain the relevant technical and regulatory date rather than assuming that every later appearance used the reveal specification.

The 2022 racing phase and Demsky’s 2023 work

Peugeot’s April 2023 livery announcement states that the team had entered two 9X8s in WEC since July 2022. It dates the Demsky presentation to Milan Design Week in April 2023 and connects the design with that year’s Le Mans event. This corrects the workbook’s 2024 art-car date. The announcement does not justify an exclusive one-car construction claim; a graphic treatment and the number of event entries are different measures from a chassis census.

The rear wing that changed the silhouette

The March 2024 factory account describes a revised tyre arrangement with different front and rear widths and aerodynamic changes including a rear wing. The subsequent Imola preview places the updated car’s competitive debut in that context. Wingless therefore identifies an early phase, not a permanent definition of every 9X8. Keeping the development sequence visible allows a later winged photograph to be identified correctly without inventing a separate limited road-car edition.

How to catalogue a specific 9X8

Begin with the event date, chassis identity where documented, bodywork generation and livery. A show car, an active race chassis and a later display can share a programme name while having different records. The selected 2023 Le Mans image illustrates that competition phase. It does not reconcile the ownership or construction history of all cars. Future records for an individual chassis should cross-reference this programme and establish their separate provenance before being treated as distinct authenticated vehicle profiles.

Rarity and production scope

Verified 9X8 programme. PEU-174’s race cars and PEU-179’s Demsky livery are consolidated into PEU-173 to avoid overlapping programme profiles. Demsky’s reveal was in 2023, not the inventory’s 2024. No exclusive one-car art-car count or completed chassis total is assigned.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Was every 9X8 wingless?

No. The manufacturer documented a rear-wing update for the 2024 development phase.

Is the Demsky entry a separate verified one-off car here?

No. It is a 2023 livery project consolidated into the programme; an exclusive physical one-car total is not established.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

Verified 9X8 programme. PEU-174’s race cars and PEU-179’s Demsky livery are consolidated into PEU-173 to avoid overlapping programme profiles. Demsky’s reveal was in 2023, not the inventory’s 2024. No exclusive one-car art-car count or completed chassis total is assigned.
