The Peugeot Inception presented a new electric-era design manifesto in January 2023. A low, expansive body on the proposed STLA Large basis framed the Hypersquare steering interface and a rethought i-Cockpit. Peugeot published ambitious battery, charging and performance references for the concept. This archive profile records the physical study and its original proposal, keeping future-facing technical claims separate from certified customer-car capability and from the specification of subsequent production models.

A manifesto with an electric platform basis

The original factory announcement identifies STLA Large as the concept’s basis and describes a five-metre body only 1.34 metres high. Those dimensions give the design a different starting point from a small conventional hatchback. The useful historical question is how the available package changes the relationship between cabin and exterior form. Sharing a platform name with future production vehicles would not make them the same model or transfer their eventual production quantities to the concept.

Hypersquare and the next i-Cockpit proposal

Peugeot introduced the Hypersquare control system with steer-by-wire as a central part of Inception’s interior concept. The interface changes how the driver occupies and operates the cabin, so it should be described as more than an unusual steering-wheel shape. An exhibition photograph can document the physical control and seating arrangement. It cannot establish software readiness, regulatory approval or that every proposed automated function worked in the displayed object at the time it was photographed.

The published 800-volt electric proposition

The January 2023 dossier describes 800 V technology, a 100 kWh battery and two electric motors with combined power close to 500 kW or 680 hp. Its range proposition was 497 miles, approximately 800 km. These are manufacturer concept references. They explain the engineering ambition without becoming an independent battery test, a present-day charging guarantee or a certified retail specification. A claim about the current exhibit requires evidence specific to that object and date.

Materials and the later public life of the concept

Peugeot’s 2024 Paris presentation returned to Inception and discussed its cabin materials, including recycled-polyester velvet and 3D patterns. That later appearance gives useful continuity to the archive. It does not establish a second production version merely because the concept was displayed again. Materials claims should retain their component boundary: a recycled upholstery description is not automatically a quantified environmental assessment of the complete vehicle, its manufacturing process or its lifetime energy use.

A clear identity for photographs and records

Use the complete Inception name and a dated exhibit caption when selecting images. Interior photographs can be particularly valuable for explaining Hypersquare, while an overall exterior view establishes the concept’s long, low proportions. A rendering or later production cabin should be labelled separately. If documenting a specific surviving object, retain collection custody and configuration changes; the factory’s original future-facing language does not by itself authenticate an exclusive one-built total or present road-going capability.

Rarity and production scope

Verified physical Inception concept. Platform, range, charging, output and automated-use descriptions remain manufacturer design references rather than certified present customer-car capabilities. No exclusive all-build census or customer production total is assigned.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.

What the photograph represents

Frequently asked questions

Is the stated 800 km range a new independent test?

No. It is the original manufacturer concept proposition, expressed as 497 miles in the UK dossier.

Does STLA Large make every related production car an Inception?

No. Platform relationship and model identity are different boundaries.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

Verified physical Inception concept. Platform, range, charging, output and automated-use descriptions remain manufacturer design references rather than certified present customer-car capabilities. No exclusive all-build census or customer production total is assigned.
