The 307 WRC replaced Peugeot's title-winning 206 WRC in the factory rally effort for 2004. Its connection with the 307 CC created an unusual visual starting point for a top-level rally car, but the competition vehicle had a distinct construction and technical purpose. This profile records the programme and its place in Peugeot's rally chronology, keeping works campaigns, later privateer use and ordinary coupé-cabriolet production separate.

Following a highly successful predecessor

Peugeot's official model history identifies the 307 WRC as the successor used in the World Rally Championship in 2004 and 2005. It arrived after the 206 WRC's run of manufacturers' titles, which inevitably shaped expectations. Those earlier titles remain the 206 programme's achievements rather than being transferred to the newer car. The 307's own story should begin with its development, crews and dated results, not a generic list of everything Peugeot had won in rallying.

The coupé-cabriolet connection

The 307 CC gave the WRC car its distinctive model association, but a production folding-roof road car is not an original rally chassis. Competition preparation, body structure and installed equipment determine the race vehicle's identity. Nor does a 307 road car acquire WRC provenance through a body kit and decals. The shared exterior theme explains the marketing connection while making it particularly important to separate showroom specifications from an event-specific competition sheet.

The 2004–2005 factory period

Peugeot's contemporary 2005 Geneva announcement discusses the active rally season and the team context, while its later heritage overview provides the broader succession from 206 to 307. These dated sources are useful together: one captures the programme while it was current, the other places it within the model's history. Their roles should not be collapsed into a claim that one fixed technical specification applied without change across both seasons and every chassis.

A rally-car specification is a dated configuration

Rally cars evolve through technical updates, repairs and changes for different surfaces. For a particular 307 WRC, its engine, transmission, differential, body and suspension description should identify the relevant year and event preparation. This profile does not substitute a road 307 engine output or gearbox specification for those competition records. A dramatic action photograph can demonstrate the intended application without proving the complete unseen configuration beneath the body.

Later entries and a surviving-car record

The end of a factory campaign does not necessarily end the lives of its cars. Subsequent privateer use, rebuilding and demonstrations belong in the individual vehicle's history, with clear dates and ownership links. They are not automatically additional factory manufacture. The selected sources establish the programme's identity and principal factory period but do not provide a complete chassis census. No ordinary 307 or 307 CC production figure is entered as the count of WRC competition cars.

Rarity and production scope

Verified 307 WRC programme. The works period, later privateer lives and road 307 CC production remain separate. No universal event specification, inherited 206 title record or completed competition-build total is assigned.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.
