The Peugeot Instinct explored how an autonomous future might still leave space for an enthusiastic driver. Introduced in 2017, the shooting-brake concept proposed a 300 hp plug-in hybrid system and an adaptable cockpit. Its connected-service scenario used Samsung ARTIK Cloud to link the vehicle with daily routines. The physical concept and the future-facing scenarios have different evidential roles: the existence of the exhibit does not certify every proposed autonomous function for public-road use.

A shooting brake with a digital question

Peugeot’s February 2017 dossier made freedom of choice the theme of Instinct. The long-roof body provided a familiar, purposeful setting for a much less conventional relationship between driver and machine. That combination matters to the concept’s identity. It is better understood as a design proposal about changing uses of a car than as a simple prediction of one production estate. The archive should retain both the physical form and the question it was designed to explore.

Four modes and the changing cockpit

The factory named two active modes, Drive Boost and Drive Relax, and two proposed self-driving modes, Autonomous Sharp and Autonomous Soft. The responsive i-Cockpit adapted its interfaces to the intended use. These names describe the concept’s interaction model, not a recognised certificate of autonomous capability. Their historical interest is the deliberate distinction between driving and being carried. A static display supports the design’s existence while leaving the practical operation of those scenarios a separate matter.

The Samsung ARTIK Cloud connection

The original account identifies Samsung ARTIK Cloud as the platform connecting the concept with devices and services. The examples concern daily routines and personalisation rather than a conventional specification table alone. When revisiting the project, retain the 2017 setting: describing the original platform is a historical statement, not a claim about current service availability. Software demonstrations, connected services and the condition of an exhibited vehicle should be documented independently if their present operation is relevant.

The proposed plug-in hybrid architecture

Peugeot described a 300 hp PHEV powertrain beneath the shooting-brake body. It formed part of the intended mix of driver engagement and automated travel. The figure is a manufacturer concept reference; it does not establish a completed customer series or an independently tested output for the current exhibit. Keeping that qualification close to the number makes the technical table useful while preventing a proposed system from being mistaken for an ordinary showroom specification.

Identifying a physical Instinct reference

Use the complete concept name, a dated factory description and photographs of the actual shooting-brake exhibit. Renderings can explain a scenario but should not replace a real vehicle image. A later car with related styling is a different subject, even where an official account discusses influence. For an individual concept object, preserve exhibition dates, custody and configuration changes; repeated public appearances are part of its history rather than evidence of additional completed examples.

Rarity and production scope

Verified physical Instinct concept identity. Autonomous and connected-service scenarios are original design proposals, not proof of present service availability or road approval. No exclusive completed-build or customer production total is assigned.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.

What the photograph represents

Frequently asked questions

Does a real exhibit prove approved autonomous driving?

No. The physical concept and the proposed self-driving scenarios require different evidence.

Was Instinct a production shooting brake?

The cited dossier presents it as a concept and technology scenario, not a customer production series.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

Verified physical Instinct concept identity. Autonomous and connected-service scenarios are original design proposals, not proof of present service availability or road approval. No exclusive completed-build or customer production total is assigned.
