Nissan unveiled the Safari Rally Z Tribute for the 2023 SEMA show, commissioning Tommy Pike Customs to reinterpret the brand's rallying heritage through a modern RZ34. The physical build combined raised suspension, all-terrain tyres and protective equipment with a tuned twin-turbo V6. It is a modern tribute, distinct from the historic 240Z competition cars and the separate period-style replica displayed alongside it.

A modern build with a historical reference

The October 2023 announcement links the concept with Nissan's Safari Rally history, but does not give this modern chassis an inherited competition result. Tommy Pike Customs built the vehicle for Nissan's SEMA presentation. The separate 240Z replica at the event has a different identity. Treating every exhibit in the display as one car would merge different construction periods and vehicle histories.

Nissan USA: detailed Safari Rally Z construction account

The RZ34 engine and manual drivetrain

Nissan's detailed build account identifies the three-litre VR30DDTT twin-turbo V6 with an AMS tune and more than 400 hp. It does not establish a 550 hp specification. The six-speed manual used NISMO clutch and flywheel components. Keeping the published threshold rather than substituting a more dramatic number preserves the difference between documented construction details and an unsupported performance claim.

A raised Safari suspension

Custom KW suspension and a roughly two-inch increase in ride height changed the sports car's operating stance. Seventeen-inch NISMO Safari wheels carried Yokohama GEOLANDAR M/T G003 tyres rather than the standard road-car tyre package. Those dimensions and components describe the commissioned build at its reveal. They should not be presented as a retail Z option or certification for another independently lifted vehicle.

Protection, lighting and cabin equipment

The concept used a custom front guard, skid protection and auxiliary lighting, while Recaro Pole Position seats and harness equipment addressed the cabin brief. These features explain how the build interpreted rally imagery through a current sports car. They do not establish homologation, a documented rally entry or approval for unrestricted road use in every jurisdiction. Its historical value begins with the actual construction and exhibition record.

Preserving the tribute’s separate identity

Use the manufacturer reveal, build sheet and dated photographs to identify the physical SEMA vehicle. Later appearances or modifications should retain their own dates and specification notes. A similar private conversion does not automatically become the Nissan-commissioned tribute. No customer-production allocation is created here, and no results from the original Safari-winning cars are assigned to this modern project.

Rarity and production scope

Verified physical 2023 Safari Rally Z Tribute. Distinct from historic Safari competition chassis and the separate 240Z replica. Published output is over 400 hp; no inherited race results or customer-production total is assigned.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.
