The Peugeot 208 GTi 30th Anniversary celebrated three decades since the 205 GTI with more than commemorative trim. Peugeot Sport added a Torsen differential and revised the chassis around a 208 hp version of the 1.6-litre THP engine. This profile uses the documented UK allocation of 100 as its limited-edition boundary. That announced market allocation is kept separate from the unconfirmed worldwide completed total and from the later GTi by Peugeot Sport model.

An anniversary with an engineering brief

The factory revealed the 30th Anniversary edition at Goodwood in June 2014, ahead of the Paris show and planned November sales. Its purpose was to create a more focused 208 GTi using Peugeot Sport expertise. Reading the car only as a birthday colour scheme misses that technical distinction. The anniversary identity combines a named edition, a specific mechanical specification and market documentation; those elements should be considered together when assessing a surviving example.

Peugeot: 30th Anniversary factory specification

Torsen traction and a revised chassis

Peugeot’s launch dossier specifies the Euro 6 1.6-litre THP engine at 208 hp and 300 Nm, a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential. It also describes specific suspension and steering settings. These factory details provide a useful baseline for identification. An individual car may now have replacement dampers, software or wheels, so its present equipment should be described separately from the original edition specification rather than assumed from its badge.

What the UK allocation establishes

The period order-opening announcement describes 100 cars for the UK, a figure also stated by Peugeot dealer Charters. That supports a bounded national allocation; it does not establish that only 100 were built worldwide. Nor does an announced allocation independently prove that every allocated car was completed, delivered and remains in existence. The useful archive practice is to retain the number with its original market and measure, instead of presenting it as a universal production census.

Colour is a clue rather than an identity certificate

The UK announcement offered Rioja Red, Satin White and the optional black-and-red Coupe Franche finish. Consequently, the two-tone body is not the sole legitimate appearance of the edition. It is also possible to reproduce a paint division on another car. For identification, compare the original order description, edition plaque and factory mechanical specification. Treat the exterior as corroboration, with market records doing the work of establishing an individual car’s original edition membership.

The distinction from later Peugeot Sport GTIs

Related mechanical ideas continued into the later 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport, but that does not make every such car an original 30th Anniversary example. Keep the delivery documentation and original edition designation attached to the chassis record. The photograph used here is deliberately labelled as a standard GTI family reference; it illustrates the parent hatchback and is not presented as evidence of a numbered anniversary car or a member of the UK allocation.
