BMW R 62
The BMW R 62 brought a larger touring flat twin into the range in 1928. Introduced alongside the sporting R 63, it helped establish BMW in the 750cc class. This profile concerns the R 62 touring model alone, rather than a combined production figure for all contemporary large twins.

Why this machine matters
The R 62 is a useful collecting subject for the step from the early 500cc range into larger touring machinery. Its story can be told through architecture and intended role without assigning unverified performance to a restored machine. The manufacturer's individual tally is used in preference to an erroneous repeated value in one secondary table.
The story
BMW's model history specifies a 745cc engine and reports 4,355 machines before replacement by the pressed-steel-frame R 11. That gives the R 62 a clear place between two different chassis eras. The museum photograph presents a 1928 example from the front quarter, with the engine projecting beyond the narrow frame. The exhibit's lamp and other fittings should be read as specimen details.
Built in limited numbers
BMW’s individual model history reports 4,355 R 62 motorcycles. This is used instead of the erroneous repeated 794 value in one secondary table. The figure covers the R 62 alone and is not a survivor census.

Authenticity & identification
For a survivor, confirm R 62 identity through chassis and engine records before using a general 750cc description. Distinguish touring-model components from those associated with the R 63 sports model, and document later substitutions. Repairs around the frame, forks and final-drive mounting deserve attention even where the visible finish has been renewed.
