Origins and history

The count belongs to the First Edition, not to all M8 Gran Coupés. The regular M8 and Competition line-up has a broader production scope. This profile keeps the four-door First Edition separate from two-door M8s and from the earlier concept presentations that helped establish the design language.

Design and engineering

Aurora Diamant Green Metallic and the yellow lighting signature are the clearest exterior identifiers. The interior carries a First Edition 1/400 designation. BMW’s model-family material explains the underlying twin-turbo V8 architecture and the larger Gran Coupé wheelbase relative to the two-door cars.

An edition overview should not silently apply every optional equipment item from the general M8 press kit to all 400 cars. The individual market and build documents establish exact configuration. The specification table therefore concentrates on the universally documented First Edition identity and engine family rather than inventing a single worldwide options list.

Why this BMW matters

The edition translates a dramatic launch image into a bounded customer programme. Its value as a collection reference lies in that transition: the colour and lighting give the launch a recognisable identity, while the production limit establishes a defined offering rather than an open-ended paint option.

The four-door body is also integral to the story. Gran Coupé describes a particular silhouette and packaging solution, not another spelling of the two-door coupé. For comparison purposes, keep body and chassis explicit. That prevents a later photograph of a green two-door M8, however attractive, from becoming misleading evidence for this edition.

Identity and original specification

Confirm original First Edition membership through BMW build and sales documentation, including destination market. Match paint, lighting and interior identification to those records. A later green repaint or altered headlight configuration does not establish a factory First Edition.

Use 2020 as the availability/reference year and preserve the 2019 announcement. The selected images are explicitly captioned by BMW as the 2020 M8 Gran Coupe First Edition. General Dingolfing production-line images and unrelated red M8s were excluded, so the visual identity matches the profile’s actual subject.

Frequently asked questions

How rare is the M8 Gran Coupé First Edition?

The worldwide First Edition limit is 400. It is not the total output of all M8 Gran Coupés.

What makes this version different?

Its dedicated green finish, yellow lighting signature and First Edition identification distinguish the launch series.

Which year belongs in the vehicle record?

2020 availability, announced in 2019.

Is it the same as other similarly named BMWs?

No. Two-door M8s, regular F93 models and concept cars have separate identities.

How should an example be authenticated?

Check original First Edition documents and market configuration, then corroborate the colour, lights and cabin details.

What do the photographs show?

They are BMW images explicitly identified as the 2020 First Edition, rather than general M8 production or concept images.
