Origins and history

The model captures a different technical era from the F10 30 Jahre M5. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission belong to the F90 architecture. The shared anniversary theme is a reason to compare the two cars, not to merge their production counts or configurations.

Design and engineering

BMW’s global reference gives 460 kW and 625 metric horsepower for the twin-turbo V8. The edition uses the M5 Competition as its mechanical starting point. M xDrive and M Steptronic therefore belong to the underlying performance package, while the edition’s distinctive materials create its commemorative identity.

The cabin’s gold-coloured aluminium carbon-structure trim is a particularly useful visual clue. That finish should not be described as solid gold. The anniversary inscription and 1/350 designation connect the special configuration to the production scope, while the exterior finish and dedicated wheels complete the design.

Why this BMW matters

The edition shows how a long-running performance idea can evolve without losing its familiar form. A practical sedan remains at the centre, but its traction and transmission solutions differ sharply from earlier M5s. A profile can explain that progression without making an unsupported claim that one generation is definitively more collectible.

Rarity here comes from the factory edition. A normal M5 Competition with similar paint is not automatically a 35 Years car. The 350 worldwide figure also includes regional allocations; the US quota should not be added to it. Edition membership, market and present condition each answer a different question about an individual example.

Identity and original specification

Use BMW build documentation and original sales records to confirm the anniversary configuration. Verify the trim, wheels and original finish against that information. Record repair or replacement parts rather than treating the limited-edition badge as a guarantee of unaltered condition.

Retain both date scopes: 2019 global launch and 2020 US model year. The profile uses the global production reference and metric output, keeping American wording separate where applicable. Factory images identify the actual anniversary edition, and source links remain visible with each photograph.
