Nissan's original JUKE-R project combined the compact Juke body concept with GT-R powertrain hardware in a radical development programme. The October 2011 announcements specify two planned cars, one left-hand drive and one right-hand drive, built by RML for Nissan. This Archive profile follows that original pair. It corrects the inventory's 2010 date and keeps the subsequent customer run and later JUKE-R 2.0 outside the original prototype count.

A 2011 Nissan and RML project

The initial announcement described a concept intended to explore reactions to a seriously sporting Juke, with testing expected in November. Nissan then revealed the physical car at a media event in Malaga in October 2011. Both releases identify RML's construction role and technical input from Nissan's European organisation. That documentation supports a real commissioned programme rather than an independent engine-swap project or an artist's proposal.

GT-R hardware in a different package

Nissan described a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, the GT-R's six-speed transaxle and a modified four-wheel-drive driveline. Packaging those components beneath a much shorter crossover body required more than cosmetic alteration. The original release provides the architecture without requiring this profile to borrow output figures from later customer cars or the separate 2015 development. Individual test stages can also differ, so the original programme should retain a dated specification boundary.

The visible transformation

Flared wheel arches, revised bumpers, a split rear wing and twenty-inch RAYS forged wheels communicated the change in purpose. Inside, Nissan described GT-R instruments and a configurable display, two race-style seats, harnesses and a visible roll cage. These details explain the physical demonstrator's identity. They should not imply that an ordinary production Juke NISMO shares the conversion, or that an aftermarket body kit establishes a connection with either original prototype.

Two prototypes is not the whole JUKE-R family

The original notes specify one left-hand-drive and one right-hand-drive car. That is a planned development-pair figure. Nissan later announced a limited customer programme, which changes the boundary of any statement about all JUKE-Rs ever built. This profile therefore retains the original pair as its scope and leaves the general completed-production field blank. It does not repeat two as a worldwide all-years total or infer completion from an early announcement alone.

Tracing the original development cars

A convincing provenance file should connect a vehicle to Nissan and RML build records, steering position, test history and dated early photographs. Later public appearances can be useful, but a photograph labelled JUKE-R does not by itself identify one of the original two chassis. Record customer cars and JUKE-R 2.0 separately. This makes the original development story clear while preventing visually related vehicles from being combined into a misleading prototype census.

Rarity and production scope

Verified physical original JUKE-R development programme. Two is the announced 2011 prototype-pair plan, not an audited worldwide completed total across later customer cars and JUKE-R 2.0. This Archive profile is not a production Juke NISMO edition.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Were only two JUKE-Rs ever made?

The original announcement specified a development pair; later customer and other programmes require separate accounting.

Why use 2011 rather than the inventory’s 2010?

Nissan’s original technical and physical-unveiling announcements are dated October 2011.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

Verified physical original JUKE-R development programme. Two is the announced 2011 prototype-pair plan, not an audited worldwide completed total across later customer cars and JUKE-R 2.0. This Archive profile is not a production Juke NISMO edition.
