BMW XM by Kith

The 2025 BMW XM by Kith turned Ronnie Fieg’s long-running BMW collaboration into a 47-car worldwide customer programme. Announced in December 2024, the G09 edition brought Kith’s design language to BMW M’s plug-in hybrid flagship. Its unusually small series links a contemporary performance SUV to the BMW M1: the number commemorates the 47 years between the M1’s 1978 introduction and the customer edition’s 2025 model year.

Origins and history

This was the partnership’s third chapter, following its M4 project in 2020 and i4 M50 collaboration in 2022. Each chapter moved into a different part of BMW’s range. The XM adds the visual presence and cabin space of a large SUV to that sequence. For collectors, the chronology explains why the edition belongs to a continuing relationship rather than an isolated aftermarket styling exercise.

The launch also included a separate XM Kith Concept and Fieg’s specially rebuilt 1981 M1. Those companions help explain the inspiration, but the customer XM has its own factory identity. Its 47-car limit covers both announced paint choices together. The launch release scheduled deliveries for the second half of 2025; that original plan is preserved without converting it into an audited final delivery total.

Design and engineering

Frozen Techno Violet metallic is the signature finish, giving the broad XM body a subdued purple surface. Frozen Black metallic provides the alternative. Black window surrounds and side accents frame the body, while violet outlines on the lettering connect the logos to the paint story. Jet Black 23-inch wheels complete a treatment whose impact comes from coordinated choices rather than a single conspicuous badge.

Kith’s involvement continues through the cabin. An embossed monogram runs across the Merino leather, including the centre armrest and rear seating. Illuminated branding beneath the front headrests, special floor mats and a branded display widget make the collaboration visible in several different materials. Rear lounge cushions and the supplied charging-cable duffle bag extend the same design into accessories used with the car.

The customer vehicle uses M Multifunction front seats. That detail helps distinguish it from the more theatrical concept presented at the same launch. The underlying XM Label architecture combines a V8 with an electric motor; the edition’s documented distinction is its factory design commission and restricted customer offering. Concept-only lighting effects should never be copied into a retail-car specification.

Why this BMW matters

The M1 connection works as a historical reference, rather than a claim that the XM recreates a mid-engined sports car. The two vehicles occupy very different categories. Their place in BMW M’s standalone-model story gives the collaboration a useful point of departure, while Fieg’s restored M1 provides a tangible companion to the new design.

This is also a vehicle in which fashion authorship is part of the collecting narrative. Paint, cabin texture, emblems and accessories form one commission. That coherence matters more than treating any detachable component as a certificate of rarity. A monogrammed bag can be separated from a car; factory documentation ties the complete specification to the original customer vehicle.

The illuminated 1/47 inscription is a shared one-of-series statement. It is not enough to establish that a photographed example was the first chassis built. Keeping that distinction makes the profile useful when individual ownership histories are added later: the edition story can remain stable while a specific car’s provenance develops.

Identity and original specification

A prospective record should begin with the original factory order, build specification and delivery paperwork. Check that the paint, cabin, logos and supplied equipment agree with the documented collaboration. A regular XM with added emblems may resemble the edition in a photograph, but resemblance alone does not establish membership in the customer programme.

Keep the 2024 announcement and 2025 model year in separate fields. Preserve the worldwide scope of the 47-car limit and record any known individual chassis history separately. Accessories, exhibition appearances and later sales can enrich provenance without changing the original series definition.

Frequently asked questions

How rare is this BMW?

BMW announced 47 customer cars worldwide. The two offered finishes share that limit; there are not 47 of each colour. This records the announced series, not a independently audited completed tally.

What makes this version different?

Exclusive paint, Kith-embossed Merino leather, illuminated emblems, 23-inch Jet Black wheels and coordinated accessories distinguish the factory collaboration.

Which year belongs in its record?

Use 2025 for the customer model year and 2024 for its announcement. The commemorative 47-year reference runs from the M1’s 1978 debut to 2025.

Is this another version of an existing profile?

The XM Kith Concept is a separate original study, and Fieg’s M1 is another distinct project. Neither is an additional member of the 47-car customer series.

How should an example be authenticated?

Match original factory and sales records to the complete edition specification. A badge, accessory or shared 1/47 inscription alone cannot establish chassis identity.

What do the photographs show?

The selected original BMW photographs show the customer-edition XM. Concept images and the accompanying M1 are excluded from this profile.
