Bimota KB998 Rimini

The KB998 Rimini was created around Bimota’s return to World Superbike competition with Kawasaki support. Its rarity figure relates to a staged 500-motorcycle homologation programme. That figure should be described in the context of the announced racing-eligibility plan, rather than as a retrospective audit of every completed motorcycle.

Design and engineering

The Kawasaki-derived inline-four is installed in Bimota’s own chassis, combining a tubular structure with machined aluminium elements. The factory release describes carbon-fibre structural parts and aerodynamic development. This is a mechanically defined homologation model, not simply a commemorative colour version of another Bimota. Its equipment should be checked against the relevant road specification.

Production and edition scope

The launch plan set out 125 motorcycles before late February 2025, a further 125 during the remainder of 2025 and a programme reaching 500 in 2026. The importer also describes a 500-bike limit. These are announced production stages, not confirmation that each target was achieved. They do not establish an everlasting cap on future successor models.

Identifying an authentic example

Check Bimota build and sales records against the chassis and model identity. Record whether the motorcycle retains its original road equipment or has been converted for circuit use. The five-bike Provec Elite programme is a separate specification, but its relationship to underlying road chassis should not be assumed when adding production totals.

Collector significance

The KB998’s historical significance is its direct connection to a racing return and the production requirements behind it. A collector description should retain that purpose while keeping claims about individual race use separate. Service history, original equipment and any conversion records are more informative than an edition claim based on appearance alone.
