The Final Concept was Mitsubishi’s black, highly tuned Evolution X show car for Tokyo Auto Salon 2015. Its 480 PS proposal and HKS-developed equipment belong to that physical exhibit. It is a separate subject from the Japanese and US customer Final Editions, even though all three appear in the farewell period of the Evolution name.

A December announcement for a January show

Mitsubishi announced its Tokyo Auto Salon lineup on 24 December 2014 for the event held in January 2015. The article uses 2015 as the exhibition reference year and preserves the announcement date in the source record. This chronology explains why photographs and contemporary coverage may carry either year. It does not create a 2014 edition in addition to a 2015 concept.

The manufacturer’s tuned GSR proposal

The original release identifies a five-speed-manual GSR basis, HKS turbo, intake, exhaust, fuel, cooling and ECU work, and a quoted 480 PS output. This is the show-car tuning specification. The figure is not assigned to ordinary Evolution X GSRs or to the numbered customer Final Editions. Nor does the announcement establish a completed customer series with the concept’s exact hardware.

Chassis choices were part of the show brief

Mitsubishi describes 19-inch RAYS Volk Racing G25 wheels, Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R tyres and HKS Hipermax MAX4 SP adjustable suspension. The important reading is a combined tuning proposal rather than a power figure in isolation. A later car using one of those components does not become the Final Concept. Likewise, replacing a wheel or suspension part during conservation would need to be recorded as a change to the exhibit, not erased from its history.

A restrained black exterior with a strong mechanical message

The manufacturer describes matte black bodywork, contrasting gloss-black areas and dark chrome at the grille. The included Tokyo Auto Salon photograph shows the physical car with its bonnet open. As editorial interpretation, that presentation puts the engineering proposal at the centre of the experience: the viewer is invited to connect a relatively familiar sedan shape with the tuning work beneath it. It is a show display, not an inspection certificate for every component.

Final Concept is not Final Edition

Japan’s production Final Edition and the US numbered series already have separate profiles in the earlier batch. Their national quantities and output ratings do not belong here. The shared farewell setting is a useful historical connection, but the names describe different subjects. This archive deliberately avoids a generic “final Evo” entry that would merge a show car, two national production programmes and later auction vehicles into one contradictory specification.

The exact photograph resolves an earlier hold

This row was held in the previous selection because a matched original specification and reusable exact-concept image had not both been cleared. The archived manufacturer release and the credited 2015 show photograph now provide those distinct evidence layers. The image is a CC0 file supplied by its photographer. It documents the physical exhibit without claiming a worldwide prototype-build census or a continuous ownership history.

Comparing a concept with an importer edition

The VIII MR FQ-400 offers a useful comparison because its original announcement describes a limited customer programme. Final Concept describes a show proposal. A reader can compare their approaches to an Evolution while keeping road availability, output units and production scope intact. One is not a more powerful specification to paste into the other’s record, and their quantities must never be added together as one edition total.

Rarity and production scope

Documented physical concept programme; no customer road-production quantity or audited prototype-build census assigned.

This record belongs to the archive. Concepts are excluded from customer road-production totals; a documented individual is a member of its wider model series and is not added as extra production.

Identifying the documented subject

Match the complete model name, date and programme to the linked evidence. Keep any chassis-specific provenance separate from a general description of the model. A period image confirms what was photographed, while a production or technical claim requires the corresponding document.

Continue through these connected Mitsubishi records, each with its own factory identity and production scope.

Frequently asked questions

What is the rarity scope of this archive record?

Documented physical concept programme; no customer road-production quantity or audited prototype-build census assigned.

Does the title date match every photograph?

2015 is the documentary reference used for the profile. A later exhibition or museum photograph can show the same programme. Its caption identifies the photographic scope without creating another edition.
