The WX-01 proposed seven-passenger accommodation within a touring-wagon idea at Tokyo Motor Show 2001. Subaru paired a flexible cabin with four-wheel torque-control and lightweight-material themes, creating a separate physical concept from the smaller HM-01 shown at the same exhibition.

A seven-passenger wagon rather than a generic minivan label

The contemporary press book describes WX-01 as a new multi-passenger concept using a five-plus-two arrangement. Subaru deliberately framed the vehicle as a wagon combining useful space with a sporting-sedan driving theme. That manufacturer intention is part of its history, rather than a measured road-test result. The name and 2001 show context identify the physical exhibit more precisely than an image of a later Exiga or another multi-seat Subaru.

The seating proposal allows more than one arrangement

The factory states an overall length of 4,795 mm and describes a folding two-person third seat, with a possible four-plus-two six-passenger arrangement using individual second-row seats. These are configurations within the published concept proposal, not evidence of separate completed vehicle populations. A useful archive records the proposed arrangements while leaving actual chassis numbers unstated. Different seating diagrams or repeated press illustrations do not establish that each arrangement was built as another vehicle.

Torque distribution was part of the technical brief

Subaru describes an advanced vehicle-control proposal with torque-distribution mechanisms in the front and rear differentials. The intended aim was to manage drive at the individual wheels under changing road, passenger and luggage conditions. The archive retains that explanation as an attributed development proposal. It does not equate the show system with every later Subaru AWD product, or claim independently demonstrated performance merely because the press book describes an intended control function.

The design uses a strong geometric theme

The text identifies a triangular motif in the exterior and cabin, alongside a roofline descending rearwards. It also discusses unusual lighting and a compressed-air rear-window clearing proposal. These details help distinguish WX-01 from a generic wagon study without inventing a final production specification. The interior’s colour and material descriptions come from the factory account; they should not be inferred solely from the monochrome exterior asset reproduced with this profile.

The archive follows one named show presentation

The included original factory exterior image is extracted from the WX-01 pages of the 2001 press PDF, with the source and editorial terms retained. It resolves the earlier photographic hold while remaining clear about the image’s presentation role. Later multi-passenger Subarus can be useful comparisons, but need separate evidence before being described as direct production continuations. No later vehicle’s sales volume or technical specification is added to this concept record.

Rarity and production scope

This Archive profile covers the physical WX-01 concept documented in Subaru’s 2001 show book. Seating alternatives are part of the proposal and are not counted as separately completed chassis. The original Verified row was previously held for a matched image; the factory exterior asset now resolves that gap. No audited lifetime chassis total or finite customer allocation is established, so exact completed production remains blank and later production wagons are excluded.

This is an Archive identity. The experimental or individually named car is not added as extra production on top of its underlying family. Repeated exhibition appearances do not establish additional chassis; the specific scope above governs the count.

What the photograph represents

The original WX-01 exterior image embedded in Subaru’s 2001 Tokyo Motor Show press book, PDF page 19. It identifies the named multi-passenger concept, with factory presentation treatment retained. It does not prove a separate chassis for each proposed seating arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Does each proposed seating layout count as another car?

No. The press book discusses cabin arrangements, not a separate completed-chassis census for each layout.

Is WX-01 the same concept as HM-01?

No. They have separate names, bodies and development briefs in the same 2001 exhibition material.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

This Archive profile covers the physical WX-01 concept documented in Subaru’s 2001 show book. Seating alternatives are part of the proposal and are not counted as separately completed chassis. The original Verified row was previously held for a matched image; the factory exterior asset now resolves that gap. No audited lifetime chassis total or finite customer allocation is established, so exact completed production remains blank and later production wagons are excluded.
