Porsche presented the road-ready 911 Speedster Concept in June 2018 and a second, Guards Red study at Paris that October. This Archive profile consolidates those two presentations within one concept programme. It does not repeat the inventory’s unqualified one-car description. The later 1,948-car production series belongs to a separate 2019 road-model record, with differences in roof equipment, mirrors and final technical specification kept visible.

The June anniversary presentation

The original driveable study appeared on 8 June 2018 during Porsche’s seventieth sports-car anniversary celebrations. Porsche subsequently showed it to audiences at other events, including Rennsport Reunion. These are dated appearances of a concept, not evidence of a customer-delivery programme. The profile follows the physical study’s role in proposing a new Speedster, while keeping its exhibition history separate from the completed road model that entered production the following year.

A second concept at Paris

The October factory announcement explicitly describes the second Speedster Concept study of 2018, finished in Guards Red with a different visual presentation. It also states that the principal body and technical components of both concept cars were identical. This makes an unqualified exclusive one-off count unsuitable. The programme is therefore described through its two documented presentations without claiming an audited census of every development object, test vehicle or later display configuration.

The concept’s technical direction

Porsche described a naturally aspirated flat-six developing more than 500 hp, a manually operated six-speed gearbox and GT3-derived chassis engineering. These are concept-era references. They should not be silently replaced by the production model’s final 510 PS specification. Preserving the difference helps readers understand what was announced in 2018 and what subsequently changed, while avoiding the misleading impression that the concept and customer roadster were mechanically identical in every respect.

Tonneau cover and show-car details

The factory description identifies a lightweight tonneau cover rather than the production car’s fabric convertible top, together with distinctive Talbot-style mirrors. Those details are useful photographic discriminators. The selected red Paris image illustrates the second study, not the earlier white-and-silver heritage presentation or a delivered 2019 car. The photo’s exact subject and setting remain visible in the caption, while the current originality of internal components is outside the scope of the illustration.

An Archive boundary that prevents duplicates

One concept programme can contain more than one physical study or presentation without requiring a duplicate profile for each paint treatment. Conversely, the later production roadster has its own customer programme and specifications. The importer keeps these records distinct by title, reference and scope. Future additions should use dated factory evidence to establish whether they concern an existing concept, a changed configuration or a different chassis, rather than counting every public appearance as another build.

Rarity and production scope

Verified physical 2018 Speedster Concept programme. Porsche explicitly describes a second study at Paris, so the inventory’s single-car shorthand is not adopted. The two presentations are consolidated here; customer production and all-development chassis totals remain separate.

This is an Archive record. Concepts, restored heritage vehicles, works cars and competition programmes are not added to customer road-production totals. A programme profile does not establish how many physical chassis were made, and repeated exhibition appearances do not create additional vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Was there only one 2018 concept presentation?

No. Porsche explicitly documented the original heritage study and a second Guards Red study.

Does 1,948 describe concept builds?

No. That number belongs to the subsequent production road-car programme.

What is the production-count boundary for this profile?

Verified physical 2018 Speedster Concept programme. Porsche explicitly describes a second study at Paris, so the inventory’s single-car shorthand is not adopted. The two presentations are consolidated here; customer production and all-development chassis totals remain separate.
